Alderholt, Dorset

Located between the historic town of Fordingbridge and Alderholt village, on the borders of Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, Wolvercroft World of Plants is well-known to gardeners all across these counties for its outstanding array of plants and trees along with a vast selection of garden furniture and statuary, composts, tools and accessories, paving and patio slabs, all neatly displayed and labeled. Friendly helpful advice is always at hand so if you need to know when to plant, how to prune, how to feed, how to control pests or simply how to pronounce a name, - just ask! If you live locally, there’s also a free delivery service for your purchases.

Another major attraction is the centre’s charming Sticky Bun Tea Room where the superb home baked food has a distinct flavour of the county, - a Dorset Clotted Cream Tea, New Forest Ice Cream for your Dorset Apple Cake perhaps, and the famous Dorset Knobs which are handmade to a recipe first created in 1860.

The menu also offers a wide choice of light meals and snacks. Freshly made sandwiches, jacket potatoes, quiches, salads, sausage rolls and soup, - all complemented by an extensive choice of hot and cold drinks.

Pride of place goes to the wonderful cakes on offer. Most are made by local WI members; others come from a local bakery in Fordingbridge. The Coffee & Walnut Cake disappears in a flash and the Carrot Cake has been described as ‘blissful’. In good weather, visitors can enjoy their refreshments on the delightful patio outside where you can also bring your dog if you wish.

In the tearoom itself, the tables are well spaced and the level floor and entrance make it ideal for wheelchair users. Fresh flowers on the tables add to the appeal.

The Sticky Bun also sells the popular range of House of Dorchester chocolates, biscuits from Dorset, a wide selection of locally made jams and preserves, and an interesting variety of cards, books, mugs and much more.

Opening times: Summer: 10.00am - 4.45pm (Monday to Saturday). 10.15am - 4.00pm (Sunday & Bank Holidays). Winter: 10.00am - 4.00pm (Monday to Saturday). 10.15am - 4.00pm (Sunday). Closed over the Christmas and New Year period.
