Margaret's café is situated in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir and
a large wooden Tea Pot outside invites you to stop and enjoy a cup of tea. The road itself
is just a wandering lane off the A52 Nottingham to Grantham road, ~ just follow the signs
for Belvoir Castle and Redmile and you'll find Margaret's on the left-hand side about one
and a half miles before Redmile. Once you've found Margaret's you'll
want to make sure you remember the twisting country lanes that led you there. Even before
you've sampled the wonderful home cooking there are the splendid vistas to appreciate.
From the dining room windows of the sturdy farmhouse there are glorious views across wheat
fields and pastures to the fairy tale outline of Belvoir Castle with its soaring towers
and crenellated battlements.
Inside the old farmhouse, Margaret's offers an irresistible choice of home-baked
treats, ~ huge slices of mouth- watering chocolate, orange, lemon, ginger, date &
walnut cakes, tempting tea cakes and scones with cream and jam. There's also a very varied
menu which includes the "things on toast" for which Margaret is renowned.
Margaret's customers range from families with children, fit cyclists, to Grannies enjoying
afternoon tea. Sunday is Margaret's busiest day, starting with bird watchers for
breakfast, then cyclists from all over the district arriving for `elevenses' and
Margaret's famous toasty things. They are swiftly followed by Sunday Lunch customers.
(Booking is recommended but not essential after 1.00 pm).
Another attraction at Old Hill Farm is the spacious and beautiful cottage garden
where the views across the Vale can be enjoyed together with one of Margaret's lavish
Craft Shop Teas. A visit is a must!
