| Today, the Teapot Trail series covers the
whole of England, Scotland and Wales and provides a reliable guide to the very best tea
rooms in each area. Altogether, over 800 establishments have been featured, selected from
the 3,000 or more which were inspected. Every one of those included had to satisfy the
three essentials of hospitality, ~ courtesy, quality and good
value for money. In its search for outstanding places to take tea, the Teapot
Trail series has led its many followers to some unlikely places. We've guided readers to
tea rooms in cathedral cloisters, castle keeps, windmills, old railway stations, ~ even to
one in a brewery. These slightly unorthodox locations are greatly outnumbered by the more
traditional kind of tea room, ~ places with cosy, low-beamed parlours, hidden away in
pretty villages or at the heart of historic towns.
The first edition of the National Teapot Trail was compiled in response to many
requests for a handbook covering the whole country. April 2001 sees the
launch of our newest and most prestigious publication to date 'Tea
Rooms of Distinction'. Like its predecessor, the National Teapot Trail,
it features establishments that have achieved standards of excellence that
are second to none. This is by no means an exhaustive guide, there are
many tea rooms that could not be included in this edition due to lack of
space, to include them all would have resulted in a very unwieldy
book, so a few were chosen from each region as examples of the kind of quality the British
tea room now offers. There are more than 130 of them, each one, in our view, a worthy
upholder of that great British institution, Afternoon Tea. |
